AUGUST 18 & 19, 2018

Running to Alaska: Christopher Woods

by BWLR Team

The Moose’s Tooth Marathon 2013 was my first marathon.

I had never run more than 2 consecutive miles in my life before August 8, 2012. My coworkers needed a 4th for their Bear Tooth Marathon Relay team that year and I decided "sure, why not?"

I jumped right in a did 6 miles a day for the next 4 days, took a few days off, then ran my leg (6.9) in 1 hr 13 mins. The next day I committed myself to running the full marathon the following year.

I had a few setbacks and ended up getting pneumonia on a 3-day backpacking trip a week before the race. I ended up sprinting the final 400 meters with a finishing time of 5 hr 23 mins 38 secs.

This year (2015) I’m committing myself to running 2,015 miles for the entire year. I’m also breaking the barrier and journeying into the wonderful world of ultra running.
